Lucy and Carol were going home for lunch.
“We'll speak this afternoon.”
“Okay, Miranda, see you later!” said Carol.
“I'll stay a little more just to see what books they brought this year, then I'll go for lunch. See ya!”
“Bye, Miranda.” They both said running towards the door.
I began to wonder across the library, studying each book with its cover. There wasn't much difference to last year. They had brought new books, but the really boring ones, like Chemistry or Biology, books noone wanted to read. Ridiculous.
I was walking through the Poetry area when I turned around, and saw him.
There he was, as perfect as he'd always been. Just a little taller. His back on one of the columns, he read some kind of sports magazine, but he closed it quickñy. He wasn't very interested. He did not look up, so I think he didn't see me. Even though, I pretended to be searching for some book.
“Tha-Thanks” I mumbled. Right at the moment, I wanted the Earth to swallow me. I had to mess it up right now, really?
“I didn't remembered that you stuttered.” said Alex, laughing. I couldn't help smiling. “How are you? Was the summer good?”
“Ehm.. well, you know, it was great. I was in my village, the beach... and what about you?” I was trying to control my nerves, but nevertheless, my voice broke. I'm sure he noticed.
“It was also great, friends and stuff. I went to Germany. It was quite interesting.”
“Wow, you were far away...”
“What? Did you miss me?” he said sarcastically.
I wish he did mean it. I wanted to scream:YES I DID!, but I had to control myself. After all, we were in a library.
I just smiled, and stared into those green eyes. I didn't remember how beautiful they were, the way they stared at me, intense. I thought I'd melt in any moment. He smiled back.
Before I could say one more word, his best friend, Jared, called him from the back.
“I'm there in a moment, Jared! Well, see you, I suppose.”
“Yeah” I said shyly.
“You know what?” he said.
“What?”
“I didn't remember how much I liked your smile.”
Before I could even flush, he turned around and went with his friend Jared. My smile. I really wasn't expecting that. He had never said that to me. Inconsiously, I laid next to the wall and smiled. I couldn't believe it. Alex, Alex! Had said he liked my smile.
The sound of the bell ringing made me jump, and I made my way to the dining room, trying to believe what had just happened.
